Florida residents who think about people being charged with drug crimes might not generally think about successful white collar executives being in this position. That is quite the opposite of the stereotype of a drug offense defendant. However, anyone can be accused of illegal activity involving drugs. In fact, an investigation that allegedly lasted for two years recently resulted in the arrest of a man who was the executive director of Florida Hospital Oceanside.
The man has been charged with providing false information with which to obtain a controlled substance and obtaining a controlled substance fraudulently. Reports are somewhat vague but indicate that at least the drug hydrocodone was involved. It is not known if any other substance is involved. The defendant is accused of using other people’s information in order to get the drug. He is also said to have used licensing information from the Drug Enforcement Administration for some of the doctors employed at the hospital in order to obtain drugs.
Details about the potential penalties associated with the charges were not released. It is also not known if the charges are felonies or misdemeanors. Contributing to the investigation were the Ormond Beach Police Department and the Volusia County Sheriff’s office. The DEA was also involved.
When a Florida resident is accused of serious drug crimes, it may be helpful to talk with an attorney. This might help educate a person about the best options for a defense.
