Three tow truck drivers killed in Tampa Bay region in 2016

On Behalf of | Nov 30, 2016 | Car Accidents

Many people know that working in industries like construction or manufacturing can put Florida residents in danger of being injured while on the job. Recent events in Florida make it clear that being a tow truck driver is another very dangerous occupation as well.

A tow truck operator was stopped along a stretch of Interstate 275 to provide assistance to another motorist. While performing his duties, a drunk driver crashed into him and killed him. No details have been provided about what may have made the impaired driver veer onto the side of the road or if anyone else was killed or injured in the accident. The blood alcohol content of the drunk driver is also unknown.

The death of the tow truck driver actually marks the third such death in the area this year alone. Despite Florida’s Move Over Law, too many emergency responders, tow truck drivers or others who aid people on roads are in harm’s way when other drivers fail to obey the law. Florida requires that people either get into a different lane or reduce their speed to 20 miles per hour below the posted limit when passing a scene in which responders are providing assistance.

While nothing can bring back a loved one after a fatal crash, family members in this situation may find it helpful to talk with an attorney. This may provide insight into how they can seek compensation for their losses.
