Driver’s License Suspended? How to Fix it.

A driver’s license can be suspended for many reasons: driving under the influence, too many traffic tickets, failure to pay a ticket and failure to pay child support are a few examples.

What you do next can make the difference between a driver’s license suspension being a bump in the road or the beginning of a downward spiral in your life.

Why you can’t ignore a suspended driver’s license

In today’s society, few people can get by without driving a car. However, driving a car without a license is a risk you cannot afford to take. It could lead to additional fines, court costs, jail time, and a longer suspension period.

Driving without a license can lead to thousands of dollars of debt that you can’t afford to pay. If you miss work due to the suspension, you could lose your job.

How do I fix a suspended driver’s license?

How you fix a suspended license depends on why your driver’s license was suspended.

  • If suspended for nonpayment of traffic tickets, you can contact the traffic court of the county that issued the traffic ticket and pay it, plus any late fees. Then you can get your driver’s license back by providing proof of satisfaction, plus a reinstatement fee, to any driver’s license office in Florida.
  • If suspended due to DUI, you may be able to get a hardship license to drive to and from work. An attorney can defend you in your suspension hearing and DUI case.
  • If your license was suspended for a serious violation of traffic laws, your driver’s license may be suspended a period of time ranging from several months to a year or longer. You may or may not be eligible for a hardship license, depending on the reason for suspension. You can request a hearing to get your license back after the suspension period. To increase your chances of success, it is important to have an attorney represent you at the hearing.
