By mid-September, most kids throughout Florida have returned to school. If you’re driving, especially during typical school hours, stay alert to avoid colliding with a young pedestrian or a car carrying a child.

Children are easily distracted

It’s important to remain aware of your surroundings because children and teens may not be watching out for you. According to one study, roughly one quarter of the observed high school kids were labeled as being distracted by listening to music or being on their phone. Listening to music may make it difficult or impossible to hear oncoming vehicles, and looking at a phone instead of surroundings could prevent from noticing potential dangers.

School bus crashes can be deadly

A car accident involving a passenger vehicle and a school bus can cause serious injuries or death. However, statistically, those in passenger vehicles are at a higher risk of being seriously hurt or killed compared to those in the school bus. Therefore, it’s essential to maintain an adequate following distance and practice other defensive driving habits when in the proximity of such a vehicle. It’s also important to make sure you stop when you see flashing lights, as it may indicate that a child is trying to cross the street.

If you’re involved in a crash, you may be entitled to compensation for medical bills, lost wages and other damages. However, this is only true if you can prove that someone else was liable for causing a wreck you were involved in. It’s possible that multiple parties will be held liable for damages in a car accident proceeding.
