Many Florida residents may be aware of the continued effort by advocacy groups like Mothers Against Drunk Driving and believe that the message about how dangerous drinking and driving really can be is getting through to people. While that may be true in some cases, there are still far too many people out there who have yet to embrace this reality as they continue to make the choice to drive after drinking alcohol.

One of these people appears to be a 29-year-old man from the Miami area. The man was just recently arrested and charged with multiple crimes for his alleged role in an accident last spring. While on the Sawgrass Expressway, the defendant rear-ended a sport utility vehicle which subsequently flipped and ignited into flames. One man in the SUV died from his injuries. The other four people in the vehicle experienced a variety of injuries ranging from a broken pelvis, head injury, burns and more.

Reports indicate that the defendant was driving with a blood alcohol content well above the legal limit of 0.08 percent and was travelling at a speed of more than 100 miles per hour when he hit the other vehicle. It is not known if any civil litigation has been initiated in the case.

People who are injured or lose loved ones due to the negligence of  others may want to talk with an attorney. Getting legal input may offer insight into how and when to seek compensation in these situations.
