The ins and outs of drug busts

On Behalf of | Dec 30, 2020 | Drug Charges

Drug busts allow for police officers to arrest a string or group of individuals who sell and create drugs. These individuals face drug charges when caught in Florida, depending on the severity of their drug-related crimes. Here’s an example about the ways that drug busts typically work.

Drug bust example

As recently as December 23, police officers issued an arrest for 20 individuals involved in a drug circle. The individuals faced charges for selling methamphetamines and cocaine, and they received 36 felony charges from the bust. One individual was not found, but there is a warrant that is available for his arrest for the sale of cocaine.

How do busts work?

In the example above, an undercover police officer led the investigation to lead to the arrest of 20 individuals. Undercover police officers act as if they are purchasing drugs from the dealers in order to prove the illegal activity. While sales continue to occur, other police officers often serve warrants and arrest the individuals involved.

Drug penalties

Drug charges come with a variety of penalties, depending on the substance and on the amount. If you are in possession of a drug, you can face up to a year in jail or more and a fine of at least $1,000. If you sell a drug, you could even spend up to 30 years in jail and be issued a fine of up to $750,000.

Drug charges are serious crimes that you may need a criminal defense lawyer for. Contact one today if you have a warrant in order to receive the help you need. It is important to be honest, however, about any activity that you engage in with drugs.
