Drunk driver charged after leaving accident scene

On Behalf of | Oct 27, 2018 | Car Accidents

Over the past several decades, advocacy groups, public agencies and law enforcement officials have launched numerous campaigns designed to raise awareness about the dangers of drunk driving. The goal of these campaigns is to prevent instances of people getting behind the wheel of vehicles if they have been drinking and, in turn, to reduce the number of accidents caused by these impaired drivers

Unfortunately, there remain a great number of drivers who refuse to give up their keys after they have been drinking. They instead choose to drive and put themselves and innocent people at risk. An example of this can be seen in a crash that happened recently in Chipley.

As reported by NBC 2, a man pulling a storage and moving trailer with his truck veered off of the road, striking three people. The driver apparently did not stop as one of the criminal charges he faces now is leaving the scene of an accident. The three people who were hit were actually working on a utility pole that had been negatively affected by the recent hurricane. One of the workers was a 60-year-old resident of Chipley. The other two men were aged 22 and 52 and were residents of North Carolina. All three died from their injuries.

No details about the driver’s blood alcohol content level were given but he has been charged with vehicular homicide and driving under the influence manslaughter. It is not known if the families of the men who were killed have or may initiate civil actions to seek compensation.
