Jury awards damages for 2010 drunk driving accident

On Behalf of | Apr 20, 2017 | Car Accidents

When Florida residents find themselves or someone they love seriously injured in accidents caused by the negligent actions of others, it is only logical that they look for ways to be compensated appropriately. However, there can be situations when receiving this compensation takes some persistence and a case in Daytona Beach provides such an example. It also illustrates the importance of remaining persistence in these times.

Roughly six-and-a-half years ago in October of 2010, a woman was driving along a street in Daytona Beach. All of a sudden, she was struck by a driver speeding around a corner and her life has not been the same since. The woman is now 42 years old and since that wreck she has spent countless hours in doctor’s offices and hospitals for treatments and surgery. Even worse, the driver who was said to have had a blood alcohol content of over 0.15 percent was never officially charged with drunk driving.

Reports indicate that upon being taken into custody by officers, the suspected drunk driver was vomiting and unable to stand up let alone take tests to support his arrest. He was then taken to a hospital where he could be monitored as he sobered up. It is not known why he was never charged after that happened. However, the woman pursued her case and was recently awarded $8 million in damages and medical costs by a jury.

People in Florida who have been involved in vehicle accidents might find it helpful to talk with an attorney to learn how they should best get help.
